Blue Whale

   2019/05/23 • Blue Whale
• Wanted to show Dad something really unique, both to Oklahoma, and to the Historic 66.  The Blue Whale certains fills that dish.

Big Bend

2019/05/24 • Sunset at Big Bend National Park
• We drove over 13 hours and 800 miles to get here by sunset.  It was grueling, but well worth it.  The worst part was the extra hour of driving after dark to get to our hotel.

Carlsbad Caverns

   2019/05/25am • Carlsbad Caverns
• Left fairly early, found a kind of weird restaurant to have breakfast in, and then drove to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico.  It was a little too much for dad, in that his toes were in bad shape after walking 800ft down into the hole walking on a sloped path.  When we were done, we headed to our hotel in El Paso.

Stars

2019/05/25pm • Stars - East of El Paso
• After dinner, I took dad back to the hotel, then I headed out to shoot stars.  About 35 miles east of town I found a dirt road to go down that turned out to be the perfect place to shoot from.  Spent about 2 hours getting all the pics (231) and blended them all together to get both a star trails pic, and a timelapse video.

Gila NF

   2019/05/26 • Gila National Forest
• Actually headed north from El Paso on I-25 to get to the town of Socorro, NM.  From there we traveled west on US-60 and drove past the VLA (Very Large Array), a series of radio telescopes used for exporing space.  Ended up in Tucson, AZ to spend the night.

Saguaro

2019/05/27am • Saguaro National Park West
• Got up early and went out for breakfast with my friends Cary and Danielle Christopher, who lived in Tucson at the time.  Then Dad and I drove through the Saguaro National Park West (yes, there's also an East).

Kitt Peak

   2019/05/27pm • Kitt Peak
• Later that day, we also drove to the top of Kitt Peak, a 6,877ft peak that houses over 20 telescopes.  The view from the top was breathtaking.  Continued west and spent the night in El Centro, CA.

PCT MX Trailhead

   2019/05/28 • PCT MX Trailhead
• Just my luck, as we got up early to shoot the sunrise at the Southern Terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail, in Campo, CA.  Fog.  Thick fog.  Wouldn't you just know?  From there, we headed north to Dad's house in LA.

Kern River

   2019/05/30 • Kern River
• Picked up Phil Toma (shown below) at his home in Lancaster, CA.  Made a turn at Rosamond that took us through a wind farm, and over the hill, toward the Tehachapi Loop, a famous section of railroad.  Then we took some back roads through the mountains that put us out at Lake Isabella.  The lake is fed by the Kern River, which we followed north to the Johnsondale Bridge (also shown below).  From there we headed up and east on Sherman Pass Road to Kennedy Meadows.  From there we headed east to Pearsonville, and then south to drop Phil off at his home, and then the extra hour for us to get to ours.

O'Melveny 2

   2019/05/31 • O'Melveny Park
• The next day my son Joey flew down from Washington to spend a few days with me and dad.  My oldest, Danny, would fly in later in the day.  While we were out, we went hiking at O'Melvery Park.

Santa Cruz Island

   2019/06/01 • Santa Cruz Island
• We, (me, dad, Danny, & Joey) got up early and drove the hour to get to the marina in Ventura for our boat ride to Santa Cruz Island.  Spent the day hiking there, and got to see an innumerable number of dolphins on the way back.  It was a great day.

PCT Kennedy Meadows

   2019/06/02 • PCT Kennedy Meadows
• Then next day we all went back to Kennedy Meadows and did just a little hiking.  I think the boys enjoyed it.  When went back to LA, we ended up going to my sister Carol's, and her husband Dan's, house for dinner and some play in the swimming pool.
