May Road Trip
5/17/2024  •  Day 2  •  Wichita Mountains NWR to Roswell, NM

   Part 1

Quanah Parker Lake

1st leg of the 2nd day of a 17 day road trip at the Wichita Mountains.
• Sunrise at the dam at Quanah Parker Lake.  Rough night sleeping, but I'm OK this morning.

Got up just before sunrise and it was great!
• Then I ate breakfast and then started toward my next stop.

Wouldn't you just know it... two buffalo decided to be "regulators"

(as my dad would call anyone slowing down traffic on the freeway)

who forced me to drive well under the speed limit.

   Part 2

Charons Garden trail to Post Oak Waterfall

2nd leg of the 2nd day of a 17 day road trip at the Wichita Mountains.
• Hiked about 2 miles round trip on the Charons Garden trail to Post Oak Waterfall.

Some wading was involved in order to get close to the waterfall.  Beauty all around!
• There is one video of some military jets (T38's I think) flying out of Ft. Sill.  Lots of them.

They kept flying overhead all morning.  In some of the other videos of the water

you might hear jets in the background.

   Part 3

Headrick Historic Bridge

3rd leg of the 2nd day of a 17 day road trips.
• Headrick Historic steel pony truss bridge.  Old trestle bridges fascinate me.  In fact,

I lost a drone at one once!  Headed west toward Texas.

   Part 4

William E Schott Rest Area

4th leg of the 2nd day of a 17 day road trip.
• William E Schott Rest Area - between Nowhere and Someplace Else on Texas Hwy 256.

I had been driving on the flat for so long I almost forgot what mountains looked like.

I don't think I saw more than 5 cars in over an hour!
• Not sure if this guy is a distant relative, or he just knew how to pick a great last name!
••• FOOTNOTE - I first tried to post this at the rest area, but was unsuccessful.

Once I got to the top of the hill I realized there's just a whole lot more of flat, just at a higher elevation!
