6/3 - Trail of the 100 Giants
Today dad and I drove north to see the Trail of the 100 Giants. It's a place with giant Sequoia trees.
Some of these trees are estimated to be over 1,500 years old.
We've been concerned about the impact of the recent catastrophic fires in the area.
We tried to come here in February, but on the 200 mile trip we got within a few miles and found the road closed.
Partly because of the fires and partly because of winter conditions. On this trip we came in from the west for the first time.
When we got close to the area we were dismayed by the overwhelming destruction caused by the fires.
Miles and miles of completely dead trees. When we turned down the road for the last 2 miles to the park, we didn't expect to find anything left.
But praise God, the park is still there! Some of the trees are singed, and one part of the park is closed, but the bulk of the trees still remain.

6/4 - Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead
We tried to come here in February, but it was closed by winter storms.
The road starts at the south end of the city of Lone Pine, just north of Owens Dry Lake.
The first block of photos and a video were taken from the part of the road that climbs up from the valley floor.
The second group are from at the end of the road. Elevation 9,800ft.
For years we drove by this spot, not realizing what was up here.
