September California Trip
9/11

   1st stop

Emerald Bay • Lake Tahoe, CA

Drove all the way through the Sierras from west to east to get here.

Tried flying my drone - got a short video and a couple of pics.  And almost lost my drone.

The wind today was blowing so hard.  I had it at about 135 feet directly

above me and within minutes it had drifted away 55 feet.

I brought it down to about 35' and moved it behind a tree (to block the wind some).

When I was sure I once again had full control, I lowered it down to about 10', flew it back

across the highway (no cars coming) and landed it on the roof of the car.

Monitor Pass

   2nd stop

Monitor Pass • CA-89

Because of fires to the north of us, we altered our plans to go to Lassen NP,

and instead headed south towards Mammoth Lakes.  We took CA-89 to get to US-395, knowing that once we got there, we would have to go north for a short distance, and then take a detour through part of Nevada, because of construction closures on US-395 between Sonora Pass and Bridgeport, CA.

   3rd stop

Virginia Lakes • 6 miles west of US-395 @ Conway Summit

Windy, windy, windy at Big Virginia Lake and Red Lake at over 9,700 feet in elevation.

   4th stop

Mono Lake • Along US-395, north of Lee Vining, CA

This lake, viewed both from a vista point in Conway Pass, as well as near the lake itself,

is an immense salt lake, near the base of the east entrance to Yosemite National Park.
