San Diego & Mt. Laguna
2/13

   Cabrillo National Monument

Beautiful vistas at the historic spot.  You could see all of San Diego, and even into Mexico,

and a large portion of the Pacific Ocean from this place.

Coronado Bridge & the Silver Strand

Having not driven over this bridge for the last 20 years or so, it's amazing how much smaller it is in real life than what my memories told me.  The Silver Strand is just a long beach.

Ocean on one side; bay on the other.  With a road in the middle.

Coronado Bridge

   Mt. Laguna

Having driven through this area once before, it amazed me to find that this vista point was so close to the highway, but totally invisible unless you were looking for it.

And an amazing vista it is, as you understand it's name, "Desert View" when you realize that you can see out over the Anza-Borrego desert area.  If you look carefully, you can see the Salton Sea, 40 miles away.

The vista point is also a trailhead for the Pacific Crest Trail, which stars in Campo, CA, at the Mexican border, and is 32 miles to the south.
