2011  •  Trip to California • July 3

   July 3, 2011

On our third day we traveled from Farmington, NM to Blythe, CA.

We went south from Shiprock, NM to Window Rock, NM, then on  I-40 to Ash Fork, AZ.  We stopped for lunch somewhere off the highway west of Flagstaff, but if you asked me to find it again I’m not sure that I could.  From Ash Fork, we headed south through Prescott,  and connected with I-10 just east of Blythe, CA, where we spent the night.

559 miles • 9 hours; 18 minutes driving time.

  Shiprock, NM

Only one of these pics is actually the monolith (the 4th one), the others are along the highway south of town.

  Window Rock, AZ

Window Rock, the geology giving name to the capital of the Navajo Nation.  This location is also home to a memorial for the Code Talkers who served our Country during WWII.

  Near Williams, AZ

I'd never be able to find this place again.

We just pulled off I-40 somewhere just east of Williams, AZ,

found a quiet place, and made our lunch along a dirt road.
