El Paso Trip
4/18/2024 • LA to Phoenix
Day Four
From Convict Lake to Mildred Lake
The hardest part of the trip - carrying our backpacks all the way up into the hills.

Hiking to the back of Convict Lake
----------------------------------
→ We 4 backpackers, and my wife Geri, and my dad George, started the hike, the first part of which is hiking toward the back of Convict lake, where the trail begins to go uphill.

Following Convict Creek into the Canyon
----------------------------------
→ Once at the back of the lake, the trail starts climbing towards the canyon, and gets steeper and steeper, as the canyon narrows.
→ We stopped for a rest at a spot my family has traditionally called "the meadow", as it was a fairly wide open space when I was a kid. Now it's full of trees.
→ After a brief rest, Geri and Dad headed back down to the cabin, and then Los Angeles, as the 4 of us continued on up the trail.

From the stream crossing to our campsite
----------------------------------
→ To get to the top, Convict Creek must be crossed.
→ The crossing point is at the confluence of the creek that drains out of Lake Genevieve on the north side of the canyon, into Convict Creek.
→ Joey decided to go for a dip.
→ After that, we pushed on to our campsite and set up camp.
