Kansas Road Trip
8/23 • From Claremore, OK to Cedar Bluff Overview, KS

   1st stop

Sunrise at Tallgrass Prairie Preserve • Pawhuska, OK

While on my way to KS I captured the few minutes of sunrise this morning where the sun was actually visible.

The video is a compilation of all the pics.  17 miles north of Pawhuska, OK.

   2nd stop

Old Scott Rice building • Wichita, KS

This building at 235 S Topeka in downtown Wichita, KS was where I worked for the Scott Rice Company from 1979 to 1995.  At that time I was promoted and transferred to our Tulsa division, which is how we ended up in Oklahoma.
• I was really glad to see that the building is still standing, but it is gutted on the inside.

   3rd stop

Kansas Cosmosphere • Hutchinson, KS

Most of the displays were pre-space shuttle, and nothing about Voyagers or Mars landings,

BUT, they do tell you on the front end that there are more displays coming later in the year.

   4th stop

Geographic Center of Kansas • Bushton, KS
Bushton, KS makes the claim that they are the "Geographic Center of Kansas".  I guess.

I found no evidence, other than this sign, that indicates that anyone else

(like someone from USGS) agrees with them.  They can have it if they want it.

   5th stop

Castle Rock, KS

About 20 miles of dirt roads to get here, but it was worth it!!  South and east of WaKeeney, KS,

this was an amazing place - and to top it off, I got to watch the sunset there.
