The Barn

2014/05/11 -  The Barn!!!

On Mother's Day, 5/11/2014, our barn burned down.

• Noture exactly how it started, but we suspect the lawn mower.  We think the mower had a fuel leak, combined with the dry grass clippings on the deck.  Or something like that.

• We tried to put it out with a garden hose, but that didn't even phase it.

• Two different fire companies showed up.

2014/05/13 to 06/07 -  Clean up begins

A very messy affair.  We rented a 30 yard roll-off for the debris.  We filled it to the top.

2014/05/13 to 07/04 • Salvage

We had to document all the damage to any possessions damaged in the fire.

And for insurance purposes.

2014/07/14 • The tree comes down

A tree that was next to the barn had significant damage from the fire.

I cut it down before we started building.

2014/10/05 to 11/17 • Barn construction

• Stared by adding an electrical outlet to a telephone pole so I could run my tools .

• SIL Jodie came by one weekend to help us put on the roofing material.

She also brought us a gift - a piece of metal work made by my BIL.

• Near the end, I rushed home from work one day to apply the final caulking.

When stepping off the ladder, I stepped on a root or a rock and fell, breaking a bone in my foot.

It made painting fun, wearing a plastic bag over my foot to protect the boot.
